چکیده

Recent simulation models for watershed management can predict the effect of management decisions on nutrient flows and water quality with reasonable accuracy depending upon on accessible data, such as topographic and hydrological datasets, estimates of point and non-point sources, land cover and soil datasets, weather data, information about management practices and a wide range of other optional parameters for setting and verification of model simulations. This paper deals with integration of the soil and water assessment tool (SWAT) model and the satellite images from the Landsat program. The scenes from Landsat (5, 7 and 8) are used to explore land cover changes through several decades. For land cover changes in the area of interest, supervised and unsupervised classifications are employed to find and compare spectral classes that are attached to the basic land cover types: artificial surfaces, agricultural areas, forests and semi-natural areas and water bodies. Spatial features from the classification can be arranged in map layers and stored in a data cube with two dimensions formed by the (x) and (y) spatial axis of the image display, and the third (z) formed by the time of acquisition of the image. The data cube can be complemented by spatial data for watershed modelling and by output layers for visualization of the simulation results. It provides both efficient storage of spatio-temporal data and data exchange by multiband read/write methods. The attached case study focused on long-term changes in nitrates in surface waters showing the nitrate contributions of various land-use classes to the hydrological components. This can provide quantitative information for the local authorities in making decisions for land cover and watershed management.

Forest Fire Potential Modeling and Simulation of its Extension Using Remote Sensing Data and GIS: (A Protected Area of Arasbaran)

Forest fire models are generally used in different aspects of fire management and are helpful in understanding and prediction of fire behavior. Forest fires cause a significant damage for public property by destroying a large tract of forest.  This helps fire fighters to focus on an area with greater risk and to develop better substructure for fire fighter training and ultimately to plan fire-f...

Integration of artificial neural network and geographic information system applications in simulating groundwater quality

Background: Although experiments on water quality are time consuming and expensive, models are often employed as supplement to simulate water quality. Artificial neural network (ANN) is an efficient tool in hydrologic studies, yet it cannot predetermine its results in the forms of maps and geo-referenced data. Methods: In this study, ANN was applied to simulate groundwater quality ...
